Pokemon TCG Standard Rotation April 2026: What Is Leaving and What Comes Next

The April 10 rotation removes G regulation mark cards from Standard, including Gardevoir ex and Iono. Mega Lucario ex with 340 HP is poised to dominate the new meta.

The Biggest Rotation in Recent Memory

On April 10, 2026, the Pokemon TCG Standard format will undergo its annual rotation, and this year the changes are seismic. All cards bearing the G regulation mark will be removed from Standard play, taking with them some of the most defining cards of the past two competitive seasons.

This rotation is being called one of the most impactful in recent memory, as it removes not just a few role players but several format-defining pillars that have shaped competitive play for over a year.

Key Cards Leaving Standard

Here are some of the most significant departures:

  • Gardevoir ex - The backbone of one of the most consistent and popular archetypes, Gardevoir ex decks have been a staple at every major tournament. Its departure leaves a massive void in the energy acceleration department.
  • Iono - Arguably the most impactful Supporter card printed in recent years, Iono served as both draw support and disruption. Losing Iono fundamentally changes how decks approach the late game.
  • Counter Catcher - This free gust effect when behind on prizes was a safety net for slower, setup-heavy decks. Without it, aggressive strategies gain a significant edge.

Mega Lucario ex Dominates Early Testing

With the old guard departing, new powerhouses are stepping up. At the center of the emerging meta is Mega Lucario ex from the Mega Evolution expansion (card 77). Boasting a massive 340 HP, Mega Lucario ex is one of the tankiest Pokemon ever printed, making one-hit knockouts extremely difficult for opponents.

Early testing and online tournament results suggest that Mega Lucario ex decks are positioned to be the deck to beat in the new format. Players who want to compete at upcoming Regional Championships should start testing against this archetype immediately.

How to Prepare

If you are a competitive player, now is the time to:

  • Review your decklists and identify which cards are rotating out
  • Start testing new archetypes built around Mega Evolution cards
  • Pick up key singles before post-rotation price spikes hit
  • Watch for updated deck profiles from top players and content creators
The post-rotation format is shaping up to be faster and more aggressive than what we have seen in months. Adaptability will be the key trait separating top finishers from the rest of the field.
